Jobing Description

Basic Function Assistant Professor Graphic Design School of Visual Communication Design. This is a 9-month, tenure track faculty position available August 2012.
Contract Length 9 month
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes in interaction design, participation in curricular development and graduate thesis reviews. The selected candidate will be expected to fully engage in departmental duties, committee work, campus activities, and scholarship aligned with institution goals.

The School of Visual Communication Design offers comprehensive undergraduate (BA, BFA, and BS) and graduate (MA and MFA) degree programs including coursework in design research, visual ethics, motion graphics and interaction design. Housed in the College of Communication and Information, the school is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), provides study abroad opportunities in Florence and Geneva, and is home to Glyphix, an award-winning, student-staffed design firm. We seek individuals interested in supporting these initiatives.

Abilities Candidates must hold a terminal degree (Master of Fine Arts or Master of Graphic Design) and have expertise in one or more of the following areas - interaction design, information design, mobile applications, and/or motion graphics. A strong commitment to education and proficiency in industry standard applications are required. Further consideration will be given to a candidate with a secondary area of expertise - two-dimensional graphic design, three-dimensional graphic design, illustration, or photographic illustration. Rank will be determined by experience and record of scholarship and creative endeavor.

Preferred candidates with an exceptional record of creative, professional and/or scholarly activities; work collaboratively as an active member of a faculty; and participate in university service and other areas of faculty responsibility.
