JOB SUMMARY:
America's Logistics Combat Support Agency
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agency. DLA provides worldwide logistics support for the missions of the Military Departments and the Unified Combatant Commands under conditions of peace and war. It also provides logistics support to other DoD Components and certain Federal agencies, foreign governments, international organizations, and others as authorized.

DUTIES:
As an Electrician, you will be responsible for the following duties:
* Installs, modifies, connects, inspects, troubleshoots and repairs overhead and underground primary electrical distribution systems and street lighting equipment.
* Sets up and aligns poles; erects cross arms and fixtures; strings conductors; installs transformers, secondaries and services with connections.
* Repairs primary distribution equipment such as cracked insulators, broken pins, wires, short circuits, loose connections, etc.
* Checks condition of transformers, switches and cable; tests insulating oil of transformers and oil switches for breakdown and contamination.
* Installs transformers on hangers; installs lighting arresters, switches, fuses, etc.
* Troubleshoots cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, cable breaks, etc. Selects and installs insulators; joins line conductors by a splicing sleeve; splices wires. Strings wires; pulls wires to proper tension, sag, etc. Installs and replaces arms and cross arms; attaches pole guys and replaces buys.
* Uses testing instruments such as voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, ground resistance tester, insulation tester, and recording devices to test insulators, transformers, insulation and circuit vaults.
* Works with Romex, B X wiring and conduits, also rubber cable. Works alone on hot wires not to exceed 480 volts and as required, higher voltage if under immediate qualified supervision.
* Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots (traces and locates defects), loads and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems fixtures, controls and equipment.
* Locates and diagnosis trouble and determines extent of repairs necessary; plans and lays out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity and proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems equipment and controls; installs, modifies, repairs, loads, and tests systems, circuits and devices; and determines arranges, places, and routes distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections and controls.
* Tests equipment by use of voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, and wattmeter for voltage, amperage and resistance.
* Determines, installs and repairs building wiring, switches, relay boxes, circuit breakers, etc., in the size, type and arrangement needed for proper and safe operation. Makes changes in wiring in buildings and structures; works out details for inside wiring from diagrams, blueprints, and building plans.
* Installs electrical wiring, conduits, switches, etc., and protective covering.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To qualify for an Electrician (High Voltage) your resume must support the following:
Per OPM Handbook X-118-C, the applicant's experience, education, and training must show enough of the knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: When completing your application, include any experience, education, or training you have had or any awards you have received which would indicate the extent of your knowledge, skills or abilities (KSA's) as they relate to each of the following Elements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works aloft on poles, at ground level and in ground trenches or manholes requiring moderately heavy physical effort. Required to bend, stoop, climb, and stand for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body needed for installing, repairing and testing electrical equipment in confined spaces. Frequently handles tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 20 pounds, sometimes heavier.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside in close proximity to high voltage line and equipment and is subject to extreme weather conditions. Occasionally performs work inside. Extensive pole climbing required for overhead work; some work is performed in underground facilities. Subject to injury by contact with high voltage lines, broken bones in falls from poles, and strains from awkward positions. Exposed to possibility of electrical shock and burns; when handling tools and materials, exposed to cuts and bruises. Ability to do the work of a High Voltage Electrician without more than normal supervision.
Applicants must possess a current valid state drivers license and a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B for vehicles that they will be required to drive before being considered for this position. You must submit a copy of your CDL, Class B license. Failure to provide a copy of your CDL License will result in lOST of consideration.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:
1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (screen out).
2. Ability to inspect.
3. Ability to provide production support services.
4. Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment.
5. Theory and Instruments (High Voltage electrical, electronic) used in shop and trade practices.
6. Ability to use High Voltage electrical drawings.
7. Ability to use and maintain hand tools (electrical work).
8. Trouble shooting high voltage electrical.
